Houston International Seafarers Center – 45th Annual Maritime Gala – Bronze Anchor Award Recipient
Thank You to all who joined us in honoring this year’s Bronze Anchor Award Honoree – David Clark
In late 2014 David was invited to join the Board of Directors of the Houston International Seafarers Center. He was voted in and began his service on the HISC Board in January 2015, ultimately leading to his election as Board President for the 2020-2021 term. Toward the end of his term as President, David began training as a ship visitor, attended the Houston Chaplain’s School, and is currently an active ship visitor, ministering to Seafarers from all over the world weekly. He is a member of, and the HISC Chaplains’ Representative, to NAMMA, North American Maritime Missions Association, and attends the annual conferences, which are held throughout North America. David joined the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in 2018, in advance of retirement from his job, and is the recently-elected Flotilla Commander for the Seabrook, Texas Flotilla. He also holds numerous Division Staff Officer positions. several Flotilla Staff Officer positions and is an Assistant District 8 Emergency Management Staff Officer.
David has a special place in his heart for seafarers of all nationalities and is a tireless advocate for seafarer rights. For over 4 decades, David has built community awareness of these essential, yet invisible, visiting mariners who make our lives as we know them possible.
David is very happily married to his lovely and supportive wife Sharion and is a proud Dad to 5 wonderful adult children, Grandfather to 14 awesome & talented grandchildren, and great-grandfather to 5 precious Great-grandchildren, with certainly more to come.
David is very active in his Church, where he plays guitar in the Praise Band, teaches an adult couples Sunday School class, Craft Director for Vacation Bible School, leads the Finance/Budget Committee, the Church Personnel Committee, and even preaches from time to time.
In his spare time, David enjoys reading, fishing, boating, and playing his guitar, a hobby that has allowed him to play in musical groups of many genres for 60 years!
The Houston International Seafarers Center is a qualified 501(c)(3) organization. Proceeds from the Gala support HISC work in providing humanitarian services to the Seafarers that visit Houston everyday on commercial seagoing vessels.
